The Landscape in Three Studies - A Plein Air Series
The Landscape in Three Studies - A Plein Air Series
Level: All skill levels
Spend a week immersed in observing and capturing the natural landscape. In this three-part workshop series, students will explore sketching and composition, plein-air painting, and close studies of trees and botanicals while working from life outdoors.
Each class will begin in the classroom for a brief class demonstration, then we will go outside to paint or draw from nature.
Students may register for individual workshops, or take the full series for a more in-depth experience. (discounted price for registering for all 3)
Monday, July 13th, 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM: will focus on “Landscape Drawing & Sketching”, where students will learn how to simplify and compose the landscape through observational studies made with a simple pencil and paper. The goal will be understanding the scene through sketches, rather than fully finished pieces.
Wednesday, July 15th 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM: “Plein-Air Landscape Painting”, will focus on the fundamentals of painting the landscape from life. The goal will be to capture a scene in oil paint while working directly from nature, conveying color, depth, and atmosphere.
Friday July 17th 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM:“Trees & Botanical Studies”, will take a closer look at the forms, textures, and structures found in nature. We will create a painting focusing on individual subjects (Trees, Flowers, Bushes, etc) rather than a larger scene.
Open to both beginners and experienced artists alike
