Frequently Asked Questions:

“For what ages are your classes?”

Our classes are designed primarily for adults. While there is no official age restriction, know that the instruction and curriculum was not designed with kids in mind, therefore we don’t generally recommend children younger than 12. That being said, if your child is mature for their age or very serious about improving their artistic skills, they are welcome in class.

Currently we are in the process of designing classes and workshops specifically for kids.

“What’s the difference between workshops, classes, and paint nights?”

Our Paint Nights are an easy place for beginners to start, though everyone is welcome. All materials are provided, and you will receive a simplified painting lesson. These are designed to help beginners get a sense of oil painting, as well as create a fun and relaxed social environment.

Our Weekly Classes are designed to help students improve their abilities over time through consistent practice and individual critiques. Once students have learned the basic method, they can work on whatever project they choose, and will receive personalized instruction. While open to all levels, weekly classes will help you see the most improvement in your work.

Our Workshops are one-day events, designed to teach a particular skill or medium. Because they are only one day, these are an all-day event to fit in the most information. Think of them as a crash-course in a particular subject. All classes and workshops cover the basics for any beginners who might be in the class.

“What kinds of Paints do you use?”

Currently all classes & workshops are taught using Oil Paints.

“Do you provide materials?”

For our Paint Nights, materials are always provided.

For other classes, students have the option to purchase their own materials, or rent studio materials for a small fee. The rental fee for a typical class is about $7 a day for oil painting classes, and $5 a day for drawing classes.

By instituting a rental system, rather than purchasing materials for the students to keep, we are able to make materials available to students at a more affordable price. This allows beginner students to try out our classes risk free before they make a large financial investment into any art materials.

Long term or experienced students may prefer to bring or purchase their own materials, and so a materials list is provided for each class.

“Do you offer Private Lessons?”

We do offer Private Lessons, though we have only a limited number of slots. Check out our Private Lessons page to learn more.

“What is your Cancelation / Make-Up Policy?”

Cancelations: Due to the limited number of spaces available per class, as well as the processing fees involved with payment, we are not able to offer refunds for students who cancel or miss a class. We apologize for this inconvenience, and ask that you check dates carefully before registering.

If the studio is responsible for a cancelation, the class will be rescheduled, and you will have the option to apply the credits to that or a future class, or receive a full refund.

Make Up Classes: We cannot offer make-up classes for one-day events, but for reoccurring weekly classes we schedule a make-up date at the end of the third session. Students are also welcome to make up the class during our regularly scheduled classes, as space allows.
